I would say positive overall

6th grader had some difficulty initially, but i honestly think it was due to the change in expectations from elementary to middle, compoubded by the virtual setting. Have seen much better results in past 3 weeks than first 2.

3rd grader has had no issues, but like your description, he gets about 3 hours "synchronous" with the teacher and 10 students. Remainder of day is on his own plus 45 minutes for art/music/pe.

Caveat on this is that my wife is a stay at home mom with K-6 certification, which is lucky for us and a blessing. Our school system is looking at hybrid for K-3 in the next quarter, and we are torn for our 3rd grader. Socially, it would be great, but we are concerned that 2 days/week in school and 3 days of on your own learning will be a worse overall setup for our family.
